diy // tassels

tassels-3 (dragged)

I’ve been busy playing with MJ and decorating a special baby room.

(PS- I’ve completely changed my mind on all aspects of Ingrid’s room, about 42 times. Stay tuned.)

In the process of changing my mind over and over again, I needed some tassels for the mobile.

For whatever reason, I knew exactly how I would make them.

And it worked!

All you need is some embroidery floss and scissors.

I doubled the amount sold in a pack, so the tassels would be thicker. Each pack of floss is $.30 at Walmart. So, each tassel costs only $.60. Such a good deal! This process takes about 3 minutes per tassel. I was glad it was pretty speedy.

Here is the picture tutorial on how to make them. Let me know if you have questions!

I might just have to make a tassel necklace for myself next.

What have you created lately?

Happy DIY-ing! xoxo

decor // bedroom

20140716-135341-50021600.jpgMost of the time it takes me awhile to decide on decor.

Not the pieces necessarily, but where they should go and how they should fit into our lives.

Nail holes feel permanent to me.

However, when I spotted this two-foot tall aluminum ampersand, I knew it had to be mine.

(It’s at Hobby Lobby and half off this week!)

It didn’t take me long to figure out where and with what I would place it.

My sister painted these silhouettes of us as a Christmas present over 4 years ago.

They’ve always hung above our bed, and I still wanted them there. The ampersand makes them feel new and fresh.

PS- That wall will soon be white.

Are you quick to decide on decor and placement?

Happy decorating! xoxo

have you heard?

Last week, something very exciting happened.

Something that I’ve been waiting for since I studied abroad (in Florence, Italy) TEN years ago.

Last week, H&M launched online shopping in the United States.

I mean. Finally! Dreams do come true, people.

The highlights include clothes (of course, BUT they now have plus sizes), HOME (a newbie!), and styling guides.

Happy hunting at H&M, no matter where you live! xoxo

thrift finds // online?

More times than not when I get the urge to dig through the dirty shelves of a thrift store, my sweet girl is napping. Alas, I don’t get to go very often. She’s asleep right now and I just had said urge.

Then it came to me: I need an online thrift store.

They exist.

I found two that are help those in need and seem fairly easy to navigate.

Shopgoodwill.com has more of an eBay feel. You set up an account and bid on items.  They pull items from all over the country to post online.

Here are a few vintage (turquoise, Ray Bans, Coach bag) finds…

The other site I found is called WebThriftStore. This site allows anyone to donate items, the money goes to a charity, and then the seller gets a tax receipt. No bidding here, you can buy what you like immediately.

Here are a few more vintage (Marc Jacobs and CHANEL) finds…

Do you thrift online? What are you favorite sites?

Happy hunting! xoxo

diy // father’s day

This post is late because I forgot to post it we have a very special mister to celebrate.

I can’t go posting about his presents before he gets them, now can I?

Matilda painted him this lovely picture.  I’m sure I subconsciously got the idea off of Pinterest, but I have no memory of a specific pin. Painter’s tape, scissors to cut the letters/shapes out of said tape, card stock, finger paint, toddler fingers- done! Message credit: when asked what the painting should say my sweet girl replied “Umm, I think it should say ‘I love you.'” Gush.

One thing to note: don’t let your sweet child get too heavy on the paint, the paper can get soggy and peel off with the tape.

The watch band is an update for his Timex Weekender.  He didn’t need it, but how about that neon pop of color? $6.99 later and it feels like a new watch!

I made the wallet/phone case with some scrap leather, upholstery fabric, and 30 minutes or less at the sewing machine. I measured it out with a phone and a credit card, just be sure to leave extra room on the sides for stitching. Cut the leather, cut the fabric, stitch the fabric on three sides to the leather, fold the leather in half, stitch down each long side (don’t forget to double back for reinforcement)- done!

(Worst DIY explanation ever?!  So sorry!  I promise to take more pictures and write a better description next time. Feel free to ask questions in the comments.  xx)

Mug credit: My mister’s brother got him this amazing mug for Christmas last year.

What were your Father’s Day purchases or creations?

Happy creating! xoxo
