home // baby room

Hello there.

Seeing as my baby bump is almost 32 weeks along, I suppose I should start working on a baby room.

Poor, pitiful second children.

Matilda’s baby room was long finished by my 32 week mark.

Here’s where my head is at this second currently.

Paint: white walls with maybe one black wall.

We adopted a (huge) mid-century modern desk from the house my parents are renovating. It will serve as the changing table mainly, but it will also catch some other surface-required items. The desk has been painted white, and I’m thinking it would look lovely on a black wall with a gallery of frames above it.

Theme: Blech. No themes here.

I can’t handle being married to a theme. Not in a baby room or any room in my house for that matter. I have to collect pieces for a space as I find them. I know it’s right when it feels right.

I am very cheap thrifty. I cannot justify spending much money on many things in life. When I was putting together Matilda’s room, all furniture was donated or handed down. However, I’m over all of those pieces for a baby room. SO. I’ve been hunting inexpensive pieces that will satisfy my cravings for Ingrid’s room.

Ikea crib: $69.99 (lovingly purchased by my parents as a baby gift) // Urban Outfitters rug: ON SALE! for $19.99

Urban Outfitters mobile: ON SALE! for $9.99 // A vintage ABC embroidery for $8 at 410 Vintage in Fayetteville.

Lastly, a wool blanket that was a birthday gift for me from my sweet in-laws.

Not very babyish, huh? I’ll post pictures as it comes along.

I think as I accessorize it, it will feel more babyish. Also, these ideas are subject to change as I put the room together.

But, it’s a start. (For Ingrid’s sake.)

How do you decorate? Theme or no theme? Color palette? Budget or not?

Happy decorating! xoxo

have you heard?

Last week, something very exciting happened.

Something that I’ve been waiting for since I studied abroad (in Florence, Italy) TEN years ago.

Last week, H&M launched online shopping in the United States.

I mean. Finally! Dreams do come true, people.

The highlights include clothes (of course, BUT they now have plus sizes), HOME (a newbie!), and styling guides.

Happy hunting at H&M, no matter where you live! xoxo

joe fresh // kids

I am definitely might be considered picky about what my daughter wears. It can be a real challenge to find trendy kids clothing at an affordable price. It has to be affordable, they stain it or out grow it.

Do you shop in department stores? I typically try to avoid all department stores, with one exception. Nordstrom. (I swoon a lot, but buy very little.)

The other day, a JCPenney ad showed up in our mailbox. I can’t remember the last time I walked in that store. Obviously, an ad that cute intrigued me to check them out. Now, I’m in love with their Joe Fresh line. Most shirts and pants are under $20.

Don’t worry, they have stuff for women too. (Post coming soon!) Men, so sorry. Nothing from this line in the jcp stores for you. If you’re in the northeast sometime, look up the stand-alone Joe Fresh stores. You can view, but not purchase, online.

Here are several of my favorites for girls…

Happy hunting! xoxo

diy // father’s day

This post is late because I forgot to post it we have a very special mister to celebrate.

I can’t go posting about his presents before he gets them, now can I?

Matilda painted him this lovely picture.  I’m sure I subconsciously got the idea off of Pinterest, but I have no memory of a specific pin. Painter’s tape, scissors to cut the letters/shapes out of said tape, card stock, finger paint, toddler fingers- done! Message credit: when asked what the painting should say my sweet girl replied “Umm, I think it should say ‘I love you.'” Gush.

One thing to note: don’t let your sweet child get too heavy on the paint, the paper can get soggy and peel off with the tape.

The watch band is an update for his Timex Weekender.  He didn’t need it, but how about that neon pop of color? $6.99 later and it feels like a new watch!

I made the wallet/phone case with some scrap leather, upholstery fabric, and 30 minutes or less at the sewing machine. I measured it out with a phone and a credit card, just be sure to leave extra room on the sides for stitching. Cut the leather, cut the fabric, stitch the fabric on three sides to the leather, fold the leather in half, stitch down each long side (don’t forget to double back for reinforcement)- done!

(Worst DIY explanation ever?!  So sorry!  I promise to take more pictures and write a better description next time. Feel free to ask questions in the comments.  xx)

Mug credit: My mister’s brother got him this amazing mug for Christmas last year.

What were your Father’s Day purchases or creations?

Happy creating! xoxo

ikea // childish

Thanks to my sister living in Dallas, my family has constant access to Ikea.

They are responsible for some of Matilda’s favorite toys. Y’all. These toys are precious. Most of these have been gifts from grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
